Louisiana Action Council (LAC) is a statewide grassroots non-profit organization that supports efforts to make government more efficient and effective.  We are currently focusing the majority of our efforts toward achieving education reform through universal school choice legislation.  Below are a few of the general positions we support.

Lower Taxes – Across Louisiana, in every facet of our government, taxes are too high! The Utilities Sales tax on businesses and the Corporate Franchise Tax, in particular, need to be revised or repealed.  These taxes have kept Louisiana from being more competitive with neighboring states in the Southeast.

Limit Government Spending - LAC supports efforts that limit the rate at which government spending can grow to current levels plus an adjustment for inflation and population growth. By stopping the growth of government, elected officials will have to look for more creative ways to address problems and use the resources they have more efficiently.

Smaller Government – Smaller, more efficient government is essential to our economic prosperity.  Over the years, our state and local governments have evolved into a patchwork of overlapping and, often times, conflicting layers that hinder progress. Government is the fastest growing segment of our economy, which is a trend that must be stopped.

School Choice – School choice is the term for any policy that empowers parents to choose where their child is educated.  The guiding principle behind school choice is that parents – not the government – best understand their child’s needs and have the right and responsibility to select a school environment that offers the greatest opportunity for their child to learn.

Public education is one of the few aspects in American life where competition is missing.  Without competition, failing schools have little accountability – as parents often have no recourse but to continue sending their children to an institution that isn’t producing results. School choice—and the effects of free market competition—will inevitably lead to better education in all schools.

Action

Our organization’s goal is to educate and inform individuals throughout Louisiana about school choice and the positive effects it has on education as a whole. We are also working to mobilize a statewide grassroots coalition which will assist in passing true education reform.
